Crystal Cavern

Getting started

How to play

There is not much to learn. Tap, buy buildings, catch the orbs. Those three things will carry you to the deepest seam.

The three things

  1. Tap the crystal in the middle

That is the whole basic move. Every tap earns you crystals.

Only the crystal itself is a target, so tapping the empty cave does nothing. On a keyboard, press Tab to select it and Space to mine.

  2. Buy buildings so it runs itself

Buildings are listed in the Mine tab. Once bought, they earn every second whether or not you are looking.

This is where the game really starts. Tapping alone runs out quickly.

  3. Catch the glowing orbs

Every ten minutes an orb drifts slowly across the cave. It fades after fifteen seconds, so tap it before then.

One of three things happens. The good one is Crystal Resonance, which multiplies everything by five for thirty seconds.

Playing full width: "Start playing" on the home page opens the game on a page of its own. The "Full screen" button at the top right of the game then hides the browser frame as well (desktop and Android only — iPhone and iPad do not allow this for anything but video, so the button does not appear there).

Buildings

There are seven. They get more expensive and more productive as you go down the list.

Base values for a single copy. Cores multiply these.
BuildingFirst pricePer second
Glowing Moss200.3

Ley Pump26,00062
Crystal Golem330,000340
Stardust Forge5,100,0001,900
Core Reactor82,000,00011,000

Each copy of a building costs 15% more than the last. In exchange, every ten copies doubles that building's output — ×2 at ten, ×4 at twenty, ×8 at thirty. The thin bar under each row shows how close the next doubling is.

Buying in bulk: above the list sit ×1, ×10 and ×MAX. The ×10 button buys ten at once; ×MAX works out the largest number you can currently afford and buys that. Useful when you are chasing a doubling.

The pick and the gloves

Sharpen the Pick raises what a single tap is worth. Early on this is what makes progress feel quick.

Resonance Gloves appear once you have mined 6,000 in total. They add 3% of your per-second income to every tap, so they grow as your buildings do — tapping never becomes pointless.

Seams and depth

Each time your all-time total crosses a threshold the seam changes, and so does the colour and shape of the crystal. The top right shows where you are and how far the next one is.

The seven seams open from the start
SeamAll-time totalDepth
Quartz00 m
Amethyst600120 m
Fluorite9,000480 m
Topaz140,0001,500 m
Ruby2,200,0004,200 m
Obsidian35,000,0009,800 m
Prism600,000,00022,000 m

Five more lie below Prism — Abyssite, Starcore, Voidglass, Dawnstone and Omega — but they are sealed at first. The next section explains how to open them.

Rebirth

Rebirth unlocks at one million crystals all time. You give up every crystal and every building, and in return you keep cores, which multiply forever.

Each core adds 2% to everything you mine and everything you earn. A hundred of them is a threefold multiplier. The deeper you are when you rebirth, the more cores are left behind.

And this is the important part: rebirthing while you stand at the deepest seam you have opened unseals the next one. Reach Prism and rebirth, and Abyssite opens. Reach Abyssite and rebirth, and Starcore opens. The line under the meter changes to "Rebirth to open the next seam" when you are in position.

Rebirth is not a setback. The first run is slow because you are feeling your way. The second run has the core multiplier behind it and covers the same ground many times faster. Hesitating costs you more than rebirthing does.

The glowing orbs

An orb crosses the cave every ten minutes and fades after fifteen seconds. Tap it and one of three things happens.

  • Rich Seam — a lump of crystals arrives at once
  • Crystal Resonance — everything is multiplied by five for thirty seconds. This is the good one
  • Lost Visitor — a larger lump than Rich Seam

The first orb of a session arrives after three minutes; after that it is every ten.

Saving and pausing

Progress is saved every ten seconds. Close the page and you pick up where you left off. While you are away the game keeps earning at half speed, up to eight hours' worth. You are greeted with what accumulated when you come back.

To stop the numbers entirely, use Pause at the top right. Income and tapping both halt, and time spent paused does not count towards the away bonus either.

Moving to another device

In the Menu tab, under Save data, press "Make a code" and you get a string of about fifty characters. Copy it, paste it on the other device, and press Load.

You will not normally need this — the game saves itself. It is there for moving devices and for keeping a backup.
